Friday Morning Musings…
I’ve been thinking about making some changes to the decor in our home.
When does it hits you…
That you want something different…that you need a change. I am quite happy, content -actually feel blessed in our home. I’ve determined before that this is our final home.
Until we visited that gorgeous home at the end of our street.
You’ve seen it several times in the background of some of our garden pictures – I even walked over and took a few exterior pictures. Then we toured the house while the real estate agent was showing it to a couple.
“Many people lose the small joys in the hope for the big happiness.” ― Pearl S. BuckIt’s a true dream house….
It’s a historic home in our town with 5 to 6 bedrooms – each, if I recall correctly, with fireplaces. These fireplaces are so beautiful, ornate. Lovely sitting rooms downstairs; an amazing open landing upstairs…extra rooms – that Dearest and I agreed would work perfectly as craft rooms for me and office for him…around 6,000 square feet of gorgeous home! I could imagine us living there! (I’m hoping the real estate agent will allow me to go in soon and take more pictures for you!)
But it’s more than we need…
We’ve been in our home for 10 years, we’ve labored inside and out. I mean, I’d have to take some of my plants with me! The layout of our home and the rooms suit our needs wonderfully.
“The greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances.”― Martha Washington
Changes I can make…
Our rooms have been the same color for those 10 years! I’ve been quite happy with my red dining room and the golds in the living room and upstairs hall. Now I want something completely different! I will begin by changing room decor in the dining room using paint.
Paint can make a marvelous change to a room.
But, it can also lead to changes in furniture, curtains and accessories. This will be quite interesting. I broached that part of my plans to Dearest…I’ve got to give him a chance to get used to it all! I can slip-cover a couch in our living room and potentially a couple chairs.
Change in the dining room started with curtains…
I made the curtains that now cover the windowseat in our dining room. LOVE the pattern and color…maybe I’ll sell them or keep the fabric – it has a marvelous wreath and bee design! Then while browsing at a garage sale, I found six panels of red toile curtains. LOVE toile!
My imagination began to spin….
I’ve almost completed the entire look to my home in my imagination. Fortunately there are some marvelous tools in the Internet that can bring to life your visions and dreams.
Valspar Virtual Painter…
I’ve been spending a lot of time playing with this fun tool! It’s so fun and so easy! I’ve used their provided pictures – two work very well that are similar to the layout of our living room-dining room.
Sharing and Showing
This tool is so helpful, because it enabled me to share with Dearest and Darling Daughter what I envision for these two rooms. My daughter has caught on to the fun. She’s shared what she’d like in her bedroom! We’re compromising – she wants darker shades than I would and she’ll probably only be with us a couple years! I’ve narrowed down my choices…making plans for slipcovering, potentially new furniture (maybe new/old); changing seat cushions and accessories.
When does it hit you…that you need a change….
change is good, change is fun…I am happy to be content where we are, happy to be able to make our home beautiful, pleasant and interesting. Life truly is beautiful when we have settled our hearts that way!
