Painting the Bed

French Impressions II closeup king bedI am in the process of changing the look to our bedroom by painting the bedroom furniture. Last week I shared with you the dresser I painted in French Impression.

French Painted Dresser 7This is a striking difference from the previous look. You can read the post here.

French Impressions II beforeThis is what our bed looked like before painting. I decided to try one of the homemade Chalk Paint recipes – Since I had Plaster of Paris on hand, that is the one I chose. I read these reviews: 1, and 3 Each of these bloggers ultimately liked the recipe with Calcium Carbonate best. I found that the recipe with the Plaster of Paris worked beautifully. I also created a glaze  to antique the bed, rather than usuing antiquing wax –

French Impressions II king bed right viewThis is how it now looks, painted. The Plaster of Paris recipe is attributed to our dear blogging friend Sharon from Elizabeth and Co. You can see the recipe here and her beautiful results – love the color! I really do like the option of making your own Chalk Paint.

French Impressions II footboardI was imitating the scrollwork on the headboard in the footboard, normally you really can’t se the footboard because of the settee that sits here.

French Impressions II bed to dresserYou can see in this picture the two pieces I have painted and antiqued.  The dresser was created using Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint and Antiquing Wax. The two painting types are going pretty well together. Dearest likes the color and the stain – he says the room is looking brighter.

French Impression II king bed right sideI am really liking the change – all of this began as inspiration from one of my favorite decorating books by Betty Lou Phillips. In her many books you can see wonderful examples of French and Italian decor style as well as the history behind these looks.

French Impressions II bed afterI am now working on the nightstands – they’ll be quite different, yet compliment the bed and the dresser.
