Before we know it…the Christmas season rolls around…and we need to begin planning, decorating and celebrating…Here’s where I begin!
Christmas Decorating Begins!
Hello all! The temperatures are unusually chilly outdoors which makes for the perfect atmosphere to begin Christmas decorating at A Delightsome Life! Also, this is such a fun time to decorate – I just can’t wait. This post contains affiliate links to which if you choose to purchase, I get a small compensation for sharing!
Where I Start
The first part of decorating is not pretty or festive. It is the practical part. I begin by taking down Fall decor and clean, really clean! It’s amazing how dusty things get while sitting for a couple weeks! Then I begin by moving furniture in the living room around – we have to make room for the Christmas tree!
I love the new arrangement! There are several cozy spots with lovely task lighting…I may leave the furniture this way! Dearest likes having his recliner near the fireplace too.
Decide Your Christmas Decor Theme/Style
I’m reusing most of my Christmas decor. What I love about doing this – first I love some of our decor. They bring back lovely memories and are very appealing to me. I love also reusing my Christmas decor in different ways.
First place – the Fireplace
I found this sweet little sled at The Country Living Fair! I loved all of the sleds, the ice skates and rustic decor. This I thought would be beautiful on our mantel – this is where I began.
I’ve had this faux berry Christmas wreath for years. It had begun to show it’s hears. I gave it added life by completely removing all berry stems and replacing them with a lighter touch. The basic theme for the Christmas mantel has been set – rustic with red berries.
I then decorated my candles with birch bark and berries. I love these dark candlesticks – they add drama and charm to the decor.
The banner I created last year using a roll of burlap, vintage music sheets and the words were made using a Sharpie.
This Tobacco Stick Rectangle crate/planter is from Decor Steals. I filled it with small faux trees. I’ll probably add lights. This small side table is a perfect spot for a good book and a lovely cup of tea.
From the fireplace, your line if sight moves up to the stairway landing. I continued the berry theme here with this candle.
This sweet little basket is French from Sunday Brocantes – an online shop in France that occurs on the first of each month.
More Rustic Detail
I love this rustic cheese mold I found at The Country Living Fair. It makes a beautiful base for this Christmas decor vignette with the candles and faux greenery.
Not only did I add more candles, but I also used more of the birch bark on a couple of the candles.
Setting up Cozy Seating
Underneath this window I placed two of the smaller side chairs with a table creating a cozy seating area with a cozy vignette.
This cozy spot is highlighted by the task lighting, the chairs, the table and the built-in bookcase.
The tabletop holds on of my favorite ‘this is us’ photos of our family.
So, Let’s Recap – Where do you begin your Christmas Decor?
- declutter and deep clean
- rearrange furniture to accommodate Christmas Tree
- Begin with the largest decor spot in the room
- Decide upon a theme – commonality in the room’s decor
- Follow through with vignettes on tabletops to carry the ‘line of sight’
- Enjoy your decorating and trust your decor style!
Alright now! I’m off to decorate the rest of the rooms downstairs. I created an arrangement in one of my favorite white pitchers with dark green and dark red dried flowers…this may be the inspiration for the kitchen!
