In my June Garden there’s a pause.
The exuberance of spring bulbs have passed as well as the first flush of roses, Iris, and Peonies.
As the summer perennials prepare to bloom, I have a lot of cleaning to do.
I have been unable to tend to a number of garden chores – and it shows. There’s a lot of dead-heading, weeding and general cleaning. The Hydrangeas this year are showing damage from the severity of last winter. I am glad to see that for the most part, they survived! I adore these Monarda. This is their second season and they’re happily filling in their spot! This Coneflower is a surprise – I thought it hadn’t survived last summer. The Allium are always fun to see and to dry for decoration.
Thankful for the rain.
This year we’re having ample rain so that I don’t have to water – I truly love that. This however encourages a lot of growth both of the perennials and of the weeds. It is fun to see what volunteers will appear in our garden. I have several Morning Glory, Rose Campion (bottom right-needing dead-heading), as well as Spiderwort.
There can be no other occupation like gardening in which, if you were to creep up behind someone at their work, you would find them smiling. ~Mirabel OslerLike a stanza from a song…
the return of the Lilies always delight me in the summertime. Top left – Milk and Wine Lily. The others are gifts…one I believe was hybridized. Lilies are very easy to hybridize… cool word too!
If I couldn’t have a garden…
I would always find a way to have Geraniums in my garden. They’re so very cheerful!
Keeping the Color going…
You can always rely on colorful annuals and bienniels such as Snapdragons to carry the color throughout your garden when all have faded or are taking a break.
As things are taking a break and getting ready for the summer show, I continue to take time in the garden, to clean and to enjoy.
In my garden there is a large place for sentiment. My garden of flowers is also my garden of thoughts and dreams. The thoughts grow as freely as the flowers, and the dreams are as beautiful. ~Abram L. UrbanI am sharing this post with these Delightsome blog parties:
