A Beautiful Autumn Blossom
The name Salvia derives from the Latin salvere~’to feel well and healthy, health, heal’
There are hundreds of varieties, from ornamental to culinary.
I have about 70 feet of this marvelous Sage, Salvia Leucantha or Mexican Sage. This woody stemmed perennial is quite drought tolerant and grows to about four + feet.
These sway in the breeze and attract these lovely yellow butterflies called Clouded Yellow Butterflies and bees.
There are a couple roses growing near the Sage – a few blooms are mingling with the long purple flowers.
It is lovely to see this flowering plant sway and for these marvelous butterflies to lift and fly only to return for more of the flower’s nectar.
I was blessed to have these already here when we moved in about 10 years ago. They faithfully come back and perform beautifully. After the blooms have passed we cut them back to the ground for them to return in the spring and flower in the autumn.
They also make a striking floral arrangement.
