And Visiting My Sister’s Country Home
For about five years now, my daughter and I have been taking the ride along I20 to Florence/Darlington, SC to help my sister and her family by painting pumpkins in preparation for the Pee Dee State Plant and Flower Festival.
My Sister’s Home
She and her family have been making some changes in their home – they’ve painted nearly each room, updated bathrooms, adding new front and side steps and such. Her home has such a wonderful country, warm-welcoming feel.
They’ve managed their flower and produce booths at the Farmer’s Market for some years – my young nephew has practically grown up in the business! We just love visiting and getting some of their boiled peanuts and cheddar cheese (Dearest’s and Darling Daughter’s favorites!) I love to see all their fantastic produce, jellies, honeys and flowers.
Love Pumpkin Season
Each year we go the weekend before to help paint the small pie pumpkins! It’s so much fun to create funny faces and some fancier ones! Each year we do something different! Sometimes, we do special order pumpkins – initials, names, design etc… We’re talking about next year coming a couple days before the festival and doing special order pumpkins on-site – that should be fun!
Gorgeous Mums and Pumpkins
I am always amazed at the different variety in pumpkins and gourds. The array of the gorgeous colors in the mums make it hard for me to decide which I like best!
The Day of the Festival
On the days of the festival, my sister’s family will fill the center of the market with pumpkins and flowers in addition to the ones already displayed in their booths – this should be quite gorgeous!
Great Fall Decor
At my sister’s home they displayed some of their flowers and pumpkins – it looks wonderful! If you have opportunity to be in the Florence/Darlington area on the weekend of October 3 – 5 pay Lawhon Produce a visit – you’ll find awesome pumpkins and flowers. Perhaps even one of the pumpkins I’ve painted!
