Held to the Same Standard….
Romans 1: 15-22, “So as much as in me is I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are in Rome also. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: fir it is the power of God unto salvation: to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH. For the wrath of God is revealed from heave against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. For the invisible things of him fro the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.”
In Paul’s letter to the Christians in Rome, he first began by recognizing that the faith of the Romans was known and spoken of throughout the world. He then declared the power of the gospel of Christ and his dedication to preaching and teaching this gospel – that Christians are to live by faith.
Paul then outlined the difference in godly and ungodly living to include: immorality, coveteousness maliciousness, full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity, whisperers, backbiters, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things and disobedient to parents…quite a list – yet this comprehensive list demonstrates to us that all unrighteousness is condemned by God. Paul later states that God is no respecter of persons.
In fact, in Chapter 2: Paul says that those who judge others for their wrongdoings, yet commit the same wrongs are inexcusable. We’re all held to the same standard.
How Shall We Now Live
It is so important how we live in this world – how we conduct ourselves and how we treat others. Jesus simplified this into two commands – Love God and love others. If we begin our days respecting and performing these two commandments then we are less likely to commit any of the unrighteous behavior outlined by Paul….
It’s also important to note that we are to demonstrate the fruits of the Spirit in our lives. That is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. (Galatians 5:22)
In today’s society, faith in God is not celebrated – in some cases it is actually condemned. This is not new – from the beginning to follow Jesus has been antithetical to the society – because it brings light to society in what’s right and wrong. If we are going to call ourselves Christians, it is most important that we strive to examine our hearts and minds daily to ensure that we’re not falling into patterns of judgmentalism, yet allowing forcertain unrighteous behavior in our own lives.
Expect the highest from yourselves – emulate the Character of Christ. Demonstrate grace, love and kindness. Be reachable – slow to wrath and quick to listen. Most of all be compassionate – we all are held to the same standard – we all have to recognize that but for Christ – salvation only comes through him and we should live our lives in gratitude striving to demonstrate to the world a difference.
Finally, forgive others as God has and always will forgive you.
