‘So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.‘ Psalm 90:12
There is such great value in the time we are given. How do we spend it?
I’ve been pondering these thoughts plus taking time to plan my days. I’m looking at what I need to do, what I want to do and combining that with what do I value.
Do you find like I do that you may spend time doing things you don’t really want to do or things that you need to do, but don’t really have time for those things or people you value?
Let’s pause for a moment and consider that.
What do we really spend our time each day doing?
If we have 9-5 jobs, we are obligated to spend that time doing those things we’re hired to do. We do need to make wise use of that time.
But, in those other moments and times of our lives, what do we spend that time doing?
What are your priorities?
If you are a believer God has given us clear direction as to what our priorities should be. To focus on these things is to exercise the wisdom we read so much about in His word.
Our first priority should be in relationships.
Our first priority should be to spend time with God. To become a Christian is easy – it’s accepting the free gift from Jesus Christ. To grow as a Christian takes effort and time. There’s so much for us to learn and so much for us to gain by spending time with God. We gain knowledge, understanding, peace, strength and purpose. If we neglect this we can easily be thrown off balance by the cares of this world.
Another relationship we need to focus our time on is with our closest loved ones. We need to be conscious of our time and not let the opportunities get away from us to spend time talking, visiting and enjoying one another. We grow in strength as a family when we spend time with one another.
Others. We live in a world where we are called to be salt and light. The only way we can make a difference in the lives of others is by spending time with them. We need to open our hearts and homes to caring for others…this is the heart of God.
I believe that in our busy life we need to set aside time daily or weekly to spend time with others. Otherwise time will get away from us and before you know it a great deal of time will have passed.
Time is essential. Time is a gift. Time has value especially in how we choose to spend it.
Plan out your days and time. And in doing so make sure you set clear times where you will spend with God, those you love and with others…This is more than spending time. It is investing your time.
