Serene Sunday
February is known as the month of love. This is the time that we remember those we are affectionate toward with gifts in flowers, candy and more…
I’m reminded this morning of how marvelous love is. How wonderful the experience it is to feel love towards another.
We have a new granddaughter. We’ve loved her from the moment we knew she was coming. We’ve loved her all those moments we waited for her. And, we loved her the first moment we saw her and every time since.
It’s so wonderful.
I remember the first moment I realized I loved Dearest. I believe it really was love at first sight. Well, for me it was the first time I heard him laugh. Then our eyes met and I knew. Since our first meeting in 1985, my love for him has deepened so much. I am so delighted to spend each day with him.
I remember the moment when I first learned I was going to be a mother. My favorite time was when I was pregnant and all three were mine alone. I loved their movement, the wonder of it. Then I saw their faces; I heard their cries and saw their expressions. I’ve loved them all so deeply so very long.
I remember the moment that I learned just how much God loved me and what Jesus Christ did for me. It was a rainy July night in 1978, I was a teenager at the time. I remember crying with joy realizing that I was so deeply loved. That night I accepted the free gift of love from God.
God is love. God has gifted to the world one of the best parts of his character – love.
How marvelous is that!
Love.
Every day we have the opportunity to experience and to give love. And what does that mean?
Well, let’s look at this verse, “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever!”
I Corinthians 13:4-8.
Do you relish in love and think of it daily as the most marvelous gift?
I’ve begun the practice of journaling each day. In part, it as my devotion and in part as a way to put what’s on my heart on paper. I’ve chosen to write down my blessings and to focus on the good that is happening in my life. We all have testing and temptations…but, above all, we all have the amazing gift of love.
I encourage you to look at the wonderful gift of love in your life and to celebrate it. Let those you love know just how much they mean to you. And, if you have a relationship with God….thank Him for being love and for giving us such a wonderful gift to share with others.
