A Sweet Treat
I love this time of the year. Apple season! Fresh apples, homemade applesauce, apple butters…the wonderful flavors and fragrances speak of autumn. I made these Spicy Country Applesauce muffins for us to enjoy.
Sweet and Spicy
Cinnamon is the spice that is usually used when flavoring applesauce muffins, but for these I’m using my favorite McCormick’s Chai Spice Blend (not a sponsored post). The combination of the warm, sweet flavors of ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg and cloves create a comforting welcoming fragrance.
Apples and Autumn Go Together
When my children were smaller, we loved visiting the apple farms in north Georgia. One that was not too far from us was Jaemor. There’s nothing like fresh apples in the fall.

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the oil, egg and applesauce. Stir until just combined. Pour into prepared muffin tins. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture over each muffin then bake in a 350 degree oven for approximately 20 minutes - or until lightly golden brown and lightly bounces back when touched in the middle.
I love a wonderful tea time or coffee break in the afternoon – these muffins are perfect for any time of the day!
