When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. 2 Timothy 1:5
While reading the books in the Bible written to Timothy by Paul I was struck by the deep love and affection Paul had for Timothy. Paul was instructing Timothy how to live and to continue faithfully in the LORD. Paul noted how Timothy was taught at an early age by his Mother and Grandmother, ‘ But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.’ II Timothy 3:14,15
I am sure Paul was emphasizing to Timothy what his Mother and Grandmother had already instructed him to do in this life.
‘Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.‘ Proverbs 22:6
From the moment we are gifted with our children we have many things to teach them. As a Christian Mother our greatest gift we can demonstrate and give to our children is our love and faith in God. From this we can show our children how we should behave in this world knowing the difficulties that will lie ahead. Each of us will have to endure something and it is our anchor of faith and love towards God that will enable us to endure.
‘ Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.’ 2 Timothy 2:15
‘All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.’ II Timothy 3:16,17
God gives ample instruction on how we are to live this life which include- to pray for all people, to live as peaceably with all people as possible, to be honest and true to our LORD and toward one another. I think it is important for Mothers to instill in their children a great love for God by demonstrating this love.
The Bible is filled with marvelous instruction for us all, a wonderful gift, the word of God.
Today, I believe it is more important than ever to deepen our own faith and faithfulness, to focus on the most important things in life, to be the light the world needs in times of darkness.
As Mothers we are charged with marvelous responsibility. I think this begins with emphasizing to our children our faith in God and also our fidelity to our Husbands and to our marriages. It is before God that we promised to love our husbands and that should always come first. When you marry, you become one and a team to work and to live together to provide a foundation of security and love for your children.
‘Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.‘ Psalm 127:3
I am so very grateful to the life God has gifted me, My Dearest and my three children. I am thankful to see the LORD working in their life and I pray that they’ll continue and become themselves Godly parents with joy knowing the promises of God.
