Shirley – Housepitality Designs

It began with a light conversation on color, wall colors. Shirley wanted to know the color I used in my dining room. Then I took a look at the colors in her home – through her blog. Instant admiration. 

Intrigued, I began to stroll through Shirley’s blog – from the beginning. After retiring from the Healthcare field, Shirley followed her passion in decorating and completed a course in I.R.I.S. (Interior Redesign Industry Specialist). She then opened her business, Housepitality Designs. Shirley shares that her philosophy in design is, ‘sophisticated, yet friendly and approachable decor’.

Family

Shirley shared that she and her husband moved to North Carolina to be closer to her new granddaughter. Being a Grandmother is such a blessing. Last year, at the Haven Conference I met Shirley at breakfast. We all had a lovely conversation, then we began to look at each other’s love – family. She showed me pictures of her granddaughter – she is delightful and I could tell how dear she is to Shirley.

Crafting

This was one of the first Anne Sloan Chalk Paint transformations Shirley made – the pineapple, symbol of hospitality is perfect! 

 The Beginnings of the Blog

When Shirley and her husband moved to North Carolina, she decided not to carry on with her business so that she could dedicate more time to her granddaughter. She did, however, begin her blog to continue to share her love of decorating and crafting. This, I believe, is also a blessing to us!

Collecting

Shirley displays her flair for decor in her garden as well – you know I love Geraniums! Check out the wreaths she maid for her doors!

The Thrill of the Hunt

A new shop in town, exquisite antique wood and iron shutters…then finding them at the right price – Shirley shared that both she and her husband loved the beauty and patina of these shutters – They’re amazing!

Friendships

Blogging has enabled us to become part of a wonderful community. Shirley shared that through Blogging, she’s gained many new friends. One notable friendship is with Kim of Savvy Southern Style. They were actually together when I met them at Haven. I’ve also seen them together at the Hometalk meet up at The Country Living Fair. In fact, both Shirley and Kim traveled to France as part of Cat of Rabbit Hill and Sunday Brocantes…so delightful! Shirley mentioned Mary Alice of Chateau Chic as well as Yvonne of  StoneGable
