I love a foggy morning….

This morning we woke to a light rain that is forecasted to last all day. I’d hoped to be able to do some garden chores today, but instead, I’ll be puttering indoors.

Chalkboard Art

It’s time to put away all things Christmas – that includes the Christmas messages on the chalkboards. I do love chalkboard art! I searched through Pinterest for ideas – I like to mimic the font and style of some of the ‘free’ chalkboard art designs I see. For the door, I chose a list that began with

‘In Our House’ with Bible verses.

Dearest and my youngest daughter surprised me with a special stocking this year – in it were colored chalk…oh the possibilities

On the door, I chose a cheeky quote by Julia Child.

On the framed chalkboard above my desk, where I do a lot of my blogging, I like to put inspirational, pretty quotes.

I chose a very simple message, ‘Blessed’.

I did this one with my youngest daughter’s chalk pens – they’re quite like paint pens

On this chilly, rainy day nothing compares to the warmth and comfort of homemade soup.

Potato Soup recipe A Delightsome Life

Today, I’m making one of our favorite – Potato Soup. Good things generally begin when you sautee onions and bacon. I then cubed three good sized potatoes. I made 8 cups of broth – using ‘Better than Bouillion’ combined them all with a few dashes of Herbes de Provence, simmer and add cream, butter. Blend slightly with a stick blender and add cubes of ham – to give it a special touch. Toast some ‘Everything’ store bought French bread and we have a heart and body warming soup.

Homemade Potato Soup

  • 3 large potato baking size cubed - (1 1/2 inch)
  • 4 slices of bacon cut into 2 inch length pieces
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 whole yellow or sweet onion roughy chopped
  • 8 cups chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon Herbes de Provence
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1 cup chopped ham optional

  1. In a large pot sautee the onion and bacon with the olive oil until lightly carmelized.
  2. Add the chicken broth and potatoes, lower heat and simmer until potatoes are done.
  3. Add the heavy cream and butter, stir until combined.
  4. With a stick blender lightly blend the soup - you will want to leave some potatoes whole.
  5. Add herbes de Provence, sour cream and chopped ham. Bring to a boil and serve.

I’m liking the clean look

– a little sparse after the gaiety of the Christmas decor. I’m on the fence about leaving the small boxwood wreaths up – they’re just too pretty!

While Cleaning….

rainy saturday photos-9I love the fragrance of a Lavender scented candle. This was a Christmas gift from my daughter…I’ve used it a lot since.

Time together,

perhaps a good movie, a game, reading a good book or an afternoon nap. These are the easy going Saturday plans for us at our house.

What do you like to do on a chilly, rainy weekend day?
