The Power of Amazement

and not taking on other’s discontent

 

“O God, you have taught me from my youth and I still declare your wondrous deeds”. Psalm 71:17

Do you find joy and amazement in the wonders that happen through your day. Each morning the sun rises breaking through the darkness of night revealing a new day. The beauty of a sunrise thrills my soul.

In the evening, as the sun sets lighting the sky with a miriad of colors and the daylight fades, God gives us light for the night.

I am always amazed at the full moon – it delights my soul.

When I’m in the garden, and a butterfly passes my way, no matter what I’m doing I will follow. I love to hear the song of the bird early in the morning and throughout the day. 

To watch the wind passing through the trees and to feel its presence as it cools the air just amazes me. There are so many gifts we are given in this world as we pass through it from day to day.

Notice the beauty around you, notice the people around you, notice the blessings around you.

I was asked recently about myself. It had been a difficult day prior and just beginning to tell ‘my story’ I began to feel better. At the end I told my young friend, ‘you know what you just did, you made me count my blessings. Now, I feel much better and my joy is restored’. 

Our former pastor shared a thought and a photo on Facebook that helped me. I have had a lot of people and events vying for my attention and time…attempting to make what’s important to them – important to me. And with some of those things, they were carrying their discontent and I was taking it on as well. 

We don’t have to take on other’s discontent. We can look at the matter, weigh it’s importance, address the issue and move on. That was so helpful to me. 

We all have to deal with difficult people and difficult situations – but we don’t have to take on their perspective and their issues don’t have to become ours. WE CAN keep moving forward and return to enjoying our lives – finding amazement in the beauty around us, the people in our lives and count our blessings. 

Continue to stop and smell the flowers, watch the birds fly by, notice beautiful sunrises and sunsets and enjoy the people in your life. This day is a gift – it won’t come again. Determine to make it a wondrous day for you – no matter what!
