When I saw this vintage cast iron bed…it was love at first sight.
She was at an Estate sale in a room filled with collected ephemera. The collection of someone’s life.
Dearest and I had been looking for full size beds for the bedrooms of this house, while the children were here we had twin or daybeds for them. Now, we wished to make these rooms guest bedrooms.
I loved the patina, the curved lines and the detail – I knew, this was the perfect bed for the blue room.
I moved some of the furniture around – placing this table to the right of the bed. I placed this alabaster lamp – a previous thrifty find – just love it!. I made this topiary of silk hydrangea flowers and a brass planter –
Now, as I shared earlier…there’s a little issue with the height of the mattress. With the frame of the cast iron bed setting a little high, the mattress and boxspring combined sit at exactly 3 feet high! Our bed’s mattress height is 27″. The difference is 9″. Now what would you do?
She became ‘The Princess and the Pea’ bed.
Our neighbors, who also have vintage beds say that this is common and their solution is a step by the bedside. That sounds nice.
A step by the bedside actually sounds quite quaint. We could get another box spring or alter the one we already have…there’s one thing for sure.
We sure do love the look of this bed in this bedroom. I have plans now for curtains…but, look. You can barely see Great-Grandpa’s chair to the left of the bed. I plan to paint this too and change the fabric…well, it is a pretty short chair. Maybe I need a taller chair.
The domino effect is definitely happening as a result of finally getting this bed in the blue room. I am very delighted to have it and look forward to our first guests!
Now, really….what would you do?
