Adding to the Dining Room Decor
The first time I saw these marvelous platters from Decor Steals, I knew they’d be a perfect addition to my dining room redecorating plans. I just had to wait! There were many things to accomplish first: paint the walls, ceiling and trim, paint some furniture, reupholster chairs, and now, the walls.
I love white dishes
My eye is drawn to white and cream dishes wherever I shop! I thought these creamware platters were the perfect compliment to the cream of the trim and to the white dishes stored in the china cabinet.
The Challenge
became which platters to select and how to arrange them alongside the china cabinet – in a balanced, even manner that would be pleasing to the eye.
The Steps I took to Arrange the Platters
One: I set them on my dining table and rearranged them until I had the pattern that appealed to me.
Two I placed some brown wrapping paper underneath to serve as a template.
Three I measured the distance from the plates to make sure they were almost even – knowing that once they were different shapes I allowed some difference in spacing
Four: I traced the platters onto the template with a pencil, then I retraced the outlines in blue chalk.
Five: I attached the plate hangers to the platters
Six: I laid the platters over their outline carefully and turned them and the template paper over until I could feel the point where the hanger would be. I used this for both sides so I created the spot for the hanger on top and bottom of plate outline. Hang the template on the wall – pencil in the mark where the hanger should be onto the wall and attach wall hanger/nail for plate.
The Result
To get both sides even, I measured the space from the rectangle plate to the hutch – using two quilting rulers and I measured the top of the rectangle from the distance of the top of the china hutch. The template worked beautifully to get this arrangement symmetrical.
Adding Dishes to the Hutch
It is now time to add back dishes to the hutch that have been stored away since the room was repainted. I added texture to the white and creamware in the hutch by adding baskets, silverware, teapots and goblets. As a touch of whimsy, I added delicate crocheted doilies tied with a ribbon, an antique teaspoon and a dried Hydrangea.
One Last Touch
While at The Blue Willow Inn in Social Circle, Georgia, Dearest picked up this lovely tassel for me. It had been hanging on the chandelier in the dining room – until now. I have some fantastic plans for the chandelier! I’m so excited!
Bringing It Together
The dining room transformation is so close to being complete! The finishing touches bring together all the elements I imagined into fruition. I am looking forward to using the dining room in its new look in the upcoming season – I’m excited to add orange – in the fall to this blue room!
